Sometimes it seems to me that there is a Grateful Dead lyric for every situation.  As Tom Hanks in "You've Got Mail" said that "The Godfather" was an I Ching, I sometimes feel the same way about Dead lyrics.
Over the past few years of hanging out a DailyKos, I've made a comment here and there, sometimes snarky, sometimes not, quoting a Grateful Dead lyric.

So for fun, I've collected a few, and invite you all to share your own.

more below

"Lately it occurs to me . . ."

I was learning to play Jack A Roe and thinking about the recent battle for marriage equality.  When I sang the last couplet:

This couple they got married so well they did agree.
This couple they got married so why not you and me?
Oh why not you and me?

Seems to me to be the perfect argument for equal marriage.

The lyric

Ain't no time to hate

plays well on that issue as well as many others.

A while back I was listening to New Speedway Boogie

So many parts of that song seemed relevant to the struggle to get rid of Bush and turn the country around.

Spent a little time on the mountain
Spent a little time on the hill
Things went down we don't understand
but I think in time we will

Other parts of the song seemed applicable to Obama's candidacy and first days in office, as kept assuring the country that the had all the bases covered.

I don't know but I been told
if the horse don't pull you got to carry the load
I don't know whose back's that strong
Maybe find out before too long

One way or another
One way or another
One way or another
this darkness got to give

More recently, when Sarah Palin resigned, I thought of Beat It On Down the Line (actual song starts playing at 1:05)

Well this job Ive got is just a little too hard,
Running out of money, lord, I need more pay.
Gonna wake up in the morning lord, gonna pack my bags,
Im gonna beat it on down the line.

Chime in, share your favorites.  Get your Jerry fix.  Enjoy the long strange trip!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
