During his latest ungodly resurrection, former vice president Dick Cheney is back on the warpath in defense of his war on terror policies. Ripping into the Obama administration’s decision to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and company in Federal Court, Cheney’s well documented philosophy of, the best defense is a strong offense, was on display in an interview with conservative friendly Scott Hennen.
Practically accusing Obama & Attorney General Eric Holder's Department of Justice of engaging in acts of idiocy, Cheney continues to maintain that his methods of combating terror was the only way to keep the homeland safe during the eight years under his watch. Keeping to his guns, he steadfastly clings to the argument that enhanced interrogations techniques, including waterboarding, prolonged time periods of forced stress positions, sleep deprivation, exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, to say nothing of black bag operations and an extraordinary rendition program, among others tricks too dastardly for sane minds to fully comprehend, was not only necessary but legal.
Mr. Cheney’s persistence in returning to the national stage, when to many is about as welcome as a malignant cancerous sore refusing to stay in remission, is a constant reminder to all Americans, that we still have a national reputation to rebuild. Unfortunately, the previous administration has left the country with a very troublesome and unpleasant burden of returning the US Constitution to its proper place of prominence.
After nearly wiping his ass with our rules of law, bending them to suit his vile and horribly misguided sense of justice, Mr. Cheney and company left office proudly proclaiming their efforts has made America safer. He and his ilk are using their last vestige of credibility to fortify themselves against the inevitable scrutiny, those very same efforts will undoubtedly receive, as the NYC Terror trials move forward.
It is important to remember, the former vice president is a man who could shoot a friend in the face and not even call the proper authorities in a timely fashion to report the incident. Clearly, Mr. Cheney has never seen a law that he himself had to adhere to like any other American.
So for a mindset such as this to reason that it is okay to hold an individual incommunicado, without access to council, or even a charge of an offense for years, should astounded no one. In fact, this is more than a rational explanation for his endless haranguing of President Obama’s approach to defending the nation.
Leaving nothing to chance, Mr. Cheney and his operatives have defaulted to their favorite tactic of choice; fear mongering. Reminding sensitive New Yorkers of the dangers and threats to NYC tunnels, subways and skyscrapers by crazed Jihadists, they even went so far as to suggest Mayor Bloomberg provide extra security for his own daughter. Were we to succumb to this madness, we’d all be imagining Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and his henchmen breaking free of their shackles, climbing the exterior of the Empire State Building to extol the virtues of Allah.
Fortunately, New Yorkers, America and the rest of the world has seen the Dick Cheney Horror show before and are in no mood for the sequel. Yes, lady justice is slow and nearly blind, but we have faith that she still has what it takes to handle the likes of Mr. Mohammed. Moreover, in time, we trust she will set her sights upon Mr. Cheney as well. Click here for the podcast
