I distinctly recall polls after the election that showed a great majority of Americans said they were willing to give the new president time to fix the incredible mess this country was in when he took office. It was upwards of 70% as I recall. Anyone else remember that?
People blamed this economy, overwhelmingly, on George Bush and the republicans. The month Obama took over there were over 3/4 of a million jobs lost. Remember that?
Obama stated time and time again that he would increase troops in Afghanistan and reduce troops in Iraq. He was quite vocal about that as I recall.
"The Afghan government needs to do more. But we have to understand that the situation is precarious and urgent here in Afghanistan. And I believe this has to be our central focus, the central front, on our battle against terrorism," Obama said Sunday on CBS' "Face the Nation."
"I think one of the biggest mistakes we've made strategically after 9/11 was to fail to finish the job here, focus our attention here. We got distracted by Iraq," he said.
Obama said troop levels must increase in Afghanistan.
"For at least a year now, I have called for two additional brigades, perhaps three," he told CBS. "I think it's very important that we unify command more effectively to coordinate our military activities. But military alone is not going to be enough."

Looking back at polls earlier this year, people seemed to be really
happy with the stimulus. People overwhelmingly thought it was a good move. Remember that?
...these attitudes about Obama have helped fuel a big jump in the percentage of Americans who believe the U.S. is headed in the right direction, according to the poll. In January’s NBC/Journal poll, 26 percent said the country was on the right track; now 41 percent think that.
McInturff attributes this jump to Democrats who have been pleased by Obama’s actions — such as the stimulus’ passage, his announcement that he will close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, and his declaration that most U.S. troops will be out of Iraq by Aug. 2010. "If you’re a Democrat, that’s a pretty good six weeks compared to the last eight years in their mind," he said

Not only did he inherit the worst economy of most of our lifetimes, he's supposed to have won the football game before the end of the first quarter. That seems like an awful lot to expect. I mean, give him at least until the half.
Am I happy about the troops going surge? Not really, but I expected it to happen because he told me it would. Come to think of it, it was probably the thing I didn't agree with the most when I voted for him, but I voted for him knowing it. Didn't you?
I wish there were more jobs too. I didn't expect them to happen quickly, but I would like them to have. I'm more annoyed that 75% of the stim money hasyet to be spent
So where did the good will go? What happened to giving him time to fix the mess? Is he still your guy or do you wish you voted for the other guy?
