Yes that's right.  Some members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are starting a movement to revoke Al Gore's Oscar.

Here's the link:

How do I know this you ask?  I heard it on KNX 1070, an AM radio station in Los Angeles.  I was driving to a friend's house and I heard this total idiot being interviewed.  He said that he was one of two members of AMPAS who were pushing to have Al Gore's Oscar taken away because Global Warming is "possibly a hoax, but in any case, clearly can't be proven."  The implication was that because some scientists' emails indicated some reticence over some of the scientific evidence that has been gathered on Global Warming, that somehow the entire theory is bogus and that Al Gore is a huckster.

It's bad enough that there are such fools within the Academy who are trying to impugn the integrity of Al Gore.  What's even worse is that KNX 1070 did NOT have anyone to represent any sort of balanced opinion on the matter.  This supposed mainstream radio station has completely bought into the phony outrage over "ClimateGate" and is just trumpeting the right wing talking points to its listeners.  I am fucking outraged.  (Believe me - because I really don't like using the naked f-bomb)

The people who are pressing the case for revoking Al Gore's Oscar are Roger Simon (the screenwriter - not the journalist for USNWR) and Lionel Chetwynd, a producer.

In any case, this is an absolutely disgusting example of how real journalism and real news is dead in the brain-dead mainstream corporate media.  It's just sick!  I just called and had an annoying phone conversation with someone in the news room.  This confirmed my long-held suspicions about KNX 1070.  The things he said were so sick and twisted it made my blood boil.  I pointed out to him that the interview was totally one-sided and there was no balance in the story whatsoever.

His reply was this:  Al Gore has been treated with "kid gloves" in the media for far too long and that he's a "big boy" and can handle it.  I said, "I don't care about what Al Gore can handle, I'm concerned with the presentation of the truth."  "Well the fact is," he replied, "CBS has been ignoring this (ClimateGate) story and it's a big story and all the media does is kiss Al Gore here and there..."

I am beyond stunned.  How unprofessional.  And how dimwitted.  I said, "Are you kidding me???  There's a major news organization named Fox News which all they do is just trash people like Al Gore all day long."

At that point he reiterated that the media was in love with Al Gore and basically said he had to go.

Please call KNX 1070 to complain about this outrageously one-sided and totally BIASED view on the phony non-scandal of ClimateGate.  Their number is 323-900-2070.  Please please please boycott KNX 1070.  I have already taken them off my set list of stations that I listen to.  You can also contact them btw at

UPDATE:  Wow, there are some really classless people on this site.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
