Some absolutist idealists call for boycott of elections, or voting for guaranteed loser "alternative" parties and candidates "on principle", usually putting forth the "analysis" that even the most progressive bourgeois liberal Democrats are "nothing" but capitalist shills, who "only" represent the interests of their own class, and thus serve "only" the dominant paradigm of monopoly corporate fascism.
While that analysis may not be absolutely, technically speaking, "wrong", in every respect, per se, the implications of the line are profound, in terms of the material effect on millions of people in this country and all over the world, among whom low income people and people of color will be grossly, disproportionately effected, suffer horribly, and die, if a right wing reactionary conservative fundamentalist fascist regime seizes the power in Congress.
Right now, the balance of power in Congress is hanging by a thread, despite a Progressive Caucus majority within the Democratic Majority. Traitorous anti-democratic corporate Blue Dogs, in alliance with Republicans, still retain, just barely, by a thread, sufficient plurality to effectively block, delay and sabotage motion.
Just a few more Progressive Caucus Democrats, and a few less Blue Dogs and Republicans, would make a world of difference on any given issue, in real, material, literal terms of life and death, for millions of people, and the whole planet, in the face of a wide range of crisis, not the least of which may prove to be climate change, and the end of all life on earth, but also extending to any of the many other more mundane, but nevertheless critically urgent issues of war, the economy, or health care.
You can rant and rave about how "teh Dems" have proven far from ideal, and even counterproductive, in terms of being anywhere near willing or able to adequately address any of these issues, and, again, you won't necessarily be "wrong", per se, technically speaking, in the most absolutist, idealist sense.
But yet and still, there remains a material, substantial, significant difference between the Progressive Caucus and the Blue Dog traitors, and especially between the Progressives and the Republicans.
The fact is, the Progressive Caucus is the majority now, within the Democratic Majority in Congress, and thus the Progressive Caucus now ultimately defines what the Democratic Party is, anymore, NOT the Blue Dogs, who are NOT "teh Dems", but a traitorous minority rump faction within the party.
Those who would conflate the Blue Dogs as being "teh Dems", in a duplicious ploy to insinuate that there's "no difference" between the Democrats and Republicans, as "justification" for boycotting or splitting the vote, are opportunist, unprincipled, weaseling liars, deliberately trying to demoralize the electorate with cynical defeatism, to suppress likely Democratic voter turnout for 2010 and 2012.
Whether they like it, realize it, or believe it or not, they are directly supporting fascism in the US, and should thus be resolutely kicked to the curb, as traitors to everything the people of this (potentially) great nation stand for and aspire to.
Death to Fascism!
Democracy is the most fundamental revolutionary concept!
Bring the Better Democrats!
All Out for 2010 and 2012!
All Power to the People!
