Talking Points Memo posted a letter from a guy who was forced to block emails from cousins who were sending him racist emails.
Further down in the letter he posted this:
These emails were prompted by the Major Hasan case. It was just too disturbing for me to receive any more of this rubbish.
What is the character profile of a racist? I cannot answer that question in general, but these particular relatives were always controlling, negative people from the time they were little boys. I never did like them.
This is all very sad. I have always supported Obama, I still do, and, for the most part, I trust his instincts. What makes this especially sad is that -- alhough I think Obama should have broken up the big banks -- I am shocked by the way the Left has abandoned him. I disagree with Joan Walsh, for example, that Obama is a Centrist. That is only a label. I think that Obama is a left-leaning pragmatist, and he figures out a solution to every problem on its merits.
If the Democrats come crashing down, I think it will be as much the responsibility of ideologues on the Left as idiots on the Right.

That person summed up alot of what I believe many of us here on Daily Kos have been trying to say and impress on the naysayers who seem intent on not just demonizing the president but, expressing negative, name calling in general.
Little attempt is made to try to understand the way government actually works. The fact that there are different people who make up our congress. The fact that the president must make decisions and you are not going to agree 100 percent, or even 80 with most people.
Including spouses and children and long time friends.
But, the left abandons this president because they don't agree 100 percent. Because he cannot leap tall buildings in a single bound.
It's time to grow up.
The fact is that many times presidents have to make decisions they may not like or want to do but, have to. That is part of the job. This president may feel he needs to try to close the books for the sake of the 9-11 families and to clean up the mess of Bush. He may feel in order to feel at peace, he must at least try.
But, many here do not even try to understand this or take it into consideration. They are angry because he is not agreeing with their idea of how this should be done.
The adult thing to do is to try to wait for more information, or try to understand why a decision is made or at least understand you will not always agree.
If Obama worked against the public option then I would do whatever I can to stop it.
But, his making a policy decision based on his own best judgment is not reason to denounce the man.
It seems that many have a fundamental misunderstanding what a progressive is.
PROGRESSIVE: One believing in moderate political change or social improvement by government action.
LIBERAL: not narrow in opinion or judgment. Tolerant. Not conservative.
Merriam Webster.
I do think alot of the angry rants, the quick to abandon, the accusing of something nefarious based on some vague rumor, ect. is mostly due to Bush Hangover.
I see it in the press where they have been picking at the man everyday for 6 months without let up. Second guessing and smearing and knocking everything.
Here, it's like people are just waiting to find they've been sold out, lied to and all kinds of bad things.
This man has gotten more crap from all sides then any president of modern times. He's had more emergencies, more crisis, more crap to fix. And more people screaming, tearing him down and protesting everything he does.
Alot of the rightwing angry is not just racism. That is too simplistic.
alot is anger at Bush and their own for failing. And fear that Obama will change everything from the Reagan revolution. And the need to express and vent the anger but, not admit there own side and ideology failed.
Our side is just refusing to believe anyone is going to be a decent president and root for our side. So they look for anything. While a policy may not set them off any other time, after Bush, they just know it's to sell them out and do underhanded things. Rumors that float around every week making a vague claim of Bush like behavior is quick to be seized on as proof. Nevermind it is bogus and nothing is ever heard of it.
For a long time I have thought alot of the negativity and anger and the left looking for reasons to be in a rage all the time, is that Obama is paying the price for Bush's sins. He is the scapegoat.
And this is one reason I do get angry and try to make people see some reason. Why I feel I should defend the guy. Because alot just feels like it's not so much him as he is the stand in for them to turn their anger on.
I wonder if this will ever let up and the American people will get back to normal. The left will try to find positive and creative ways to push their agenda and activism. the right will turn to repairing their damaged party and pen in the crazies of the far right.
I keep hoping so.
