I know it's fun mocking the Republicans for Scozzafava'ing their own, for having loyalty oaths and requirements for meeting at least 8 out of 10 core principles. But let us be honest with ourselves... aren't we out to do the same thing?
We're by and large capital "P" Progressives here. And we expect our Democratic members of Congress and the Executive to be that way too. When Democrats in Congress stall HCR, we joyously cry out that we should primary them. When Democrats in the New York legislature voted against marriage equality, we howled in justified anger and called for them to be replaced in the next election.
And just how is any of that different from what the Republicans are doing? We are having a grand time mocking them for having splits in their party between their moderate and "radical" factions... but what are we doing in our own party that is somehow different?
I'm not saying that there isn't cause to "clean house" and replace Democrats that aren't reflecting core values of the Democratic Party and Progressives in specific... just that we be honest with ourselves about it. Don't crow about winning in NY-23 and watching Charlie Crist go down in flames in one breath while eagerly calling for the replacement of Joe Lieberman or Blanche Lincoln or Mary Landrieu because they don't work for party or progressive ideals. We're doing many of the same things as the Republicans and for many of the same reasons, let's not fall into the same traps.
