Okay, one thing I've never understood about our current culture is how, when someone tells the truth, they're called "too liberal". You see it all the time. You really see it with someone like Dennis Kucinich:
For those who can't play videos or listen to audio, Kucinich is pointing out two things here.
One, it turns out that we are paying the Taliban protection money. Why? So they don't attack our supply lines.
Yes, we are paying "the enemy" protection money in a war against "the enemy".
Has this ever occurred before in the history of planet earth?
If this gets out, will America get laughed off the world stage?
This is the dumbest thing I've ever seen or heard of.
Paying the Taliban to not fight us. So that we can fight them.
Hmmm, let's think about this for two seconds.
We wouldn't have to pay them to NOT attack us .... if they weren't ALREADY fighting us!
So we're paying them TO FIGHT US.
We're paying them to fight us, and we're coughing up billions upon billions of dollars to fight them. The people that we're paying to fight us.
Has that become clear yet?
It's like the world's most expensive video game. Only we're paying not just in money, but with blood.
I doubt that the Military Industrial Complex, in its wildest DREAMS, ever thought they could pull this off! What a triumph! They have literally convinced the American Taxpayers to FUND A WAR, from the bottom up!
Did we pay Hitler to fight the U.S., so we could try out our new weapon systems? I don't think so. What a ludicrous idea! But that's what we're doing now. Let's face it, the real reason for this "war" is job security for the M.I.C. We've recently seen one new top secret toy come out from under wraps (nicknamed "The Beast of Kandahar"), and now, finally, the Marines have their beloved boondoggle, the "Osprey" starting to work over there.
Think the Osprey would have ever been used without a war in which to use it? I think not.
Kucinich also goes on to point out that the war itself is simply unconstitutional. It managed to bypass the War Powers Act and is illegitimate because Congress never actually approved of it.
I used to think of myself as a moderate. I mean, I am! I'm just looking for truth and common sense. But things have gotten so completely ass-backwards fucked-up beyond all reason in this country that the only people telling the truth and displaying any common sense are labelled "liberals".
If so, well, hey, maybe I'm a "liberal". So be it.
EDIT:
Someone quickly pointed out the obvious that yes, we're not only paying the Taliban to fighti us, we are also hiring other Afghanis to fight the Taliban.
I'm sure they're all taking this "war" very seriously. In fact, if you haven't see this video yet, it's blatantly on dispaly, just how "seriously" the Afghan soldiers are taking this "war". They're hanging out, smoking hash and opium, giggling, and wasting ammo.
