I was over at the Huffington Post and came across an Op-Ed that was written by Ed Shultz Link. It was an excellent piece regarding real Americans and their need for real healthcare reform. There was also a powerful video of the free clinic that was hosted in Kansas City, MO.
I read the piece and saw the video. It was very moving. It actually brought me to tears. After listening to the debate out of Washington this week and listening to what we might end up with in this healthcare reform battle I was actually moved to even more tears. People really need real healthcare reform not the window dressing that it seems we are going to end up with. I am exhausted from begging, pleading, faxing, e-mailing, letter writing, and calling for our elected officials to do the right thing by the American people. Ed's Op-Ed expressed my emotions exactly. Here's a snippet from the article:
America has a heartless side to it as well. That is demonstrated when U.S. Senators put the God Almighty Dollar in front of people who put them in office. How any law maker could deny full access and full health care coverage is beyond me. Senators who put themselves ahead of the people and who have been spoiled by the Washington good life have lost their soul and what it means to be an American. We throw billions of dollars at wars, often without hesitation, but some in the Congress are willing to treat humans in their own country like a piece of machinery that can be left in a junk yard.
My God, what has happened to America ?
Also, after listening to his radio show today he noted that more than 83% of the people who attended the free clinic had 1 and in some cases 2 jobs but still could not afford healthcare. In the end this was Ed's plea:
I beg the Senate: please make the correct decision for this country and pass the torch to a new generation with compassion and moral compass with a health care bill that never falls short of any need for any American.
My plea is that everybody that reads Ed's OP-Ed is to make a copy of it and send it to their elected officials.
I can't embed the video of the clinic but it is a must see for every politician in Capital Hill. Please click on the link to watch it http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
