Batten down the hatches folks, we are in for a week of turmoil.
What with Grassley complaining about "earmarks", Lieberman doing what Lieberman always does, we can cry or we can watch this video and laugh at the whole damn bunch. (That's temporary, tomorrow is back to the phones day!)
The video is:
The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas starring Burt Reynolds & Dolly Parton. The talented Charles Durning plays the Texas Governor and his performance earned him an Oscar nomination. Here's his big number - 'Sidestep'. (embedded below)
Yesterday I was on the treadmill and turned Fox on just for giggles.
Well, I have scoured the internets for a video of what I saw but it's nowhere to be found. A host (don't know his name) interviewed Senator Grassley.
I will attempt to recreate part of it.....
Host: Senator Grassley, what do you think of the earmarks in the spending bill?
Grassley: I agree with Senator Demint, there should not be any earmarks in the bill.
Host: I noticed an earmark of a kazillion dollars (my amount because I can't remember the exact figure) in the bill for something in Iowa. Did you put that in there?
Grassley: I don't know?
Host: Senator, how could you not know?
Grassley: Well, I put about 400 in so I can't be sure without checking my paperwork at the office if I put it in or if someone else did.
Host: You put about 400 in? (shocked look on his face, gasping for breath!)
Grassley: I had a list of 400, I'm not sure what made it into the bill.
Host: Senator, isn't that a little bit hypocritical?
Grassley: No, because I support Senator Demint in saying that the bill should not include any earmarks.
Host proceeded to get the interview over with. I'm assuming he's hoping no one in the entire world saw it, cuz Grassley is a Republican and by gosh this is Fox and we can't have facts like this floating around that make Repubs look bad
Believe it or not, this is almost exactly how the interview went. I promise, I saw it.
Then there's Lieberman who frankly, I'm sick of even seeing his name but just in case you slept the day away, he's being icky again.

Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.) informed Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) in a face-to-face meeting on Sunday that he will vote against a health care bill that includes a public option or a provision that would expand Medicare, a Democrat Senate aide tells the Huffington Post.
The two Senators had a discussion in Reid's office shortly after Lieberman appeared on CBS's Face the Nation Sunday morning. The Connecticut Independent discussed with Reid some of his concerns about the legislation, elaborating on issues he had raised during the show. According to the source, who was briefed on the exchange, Lieberman punctuated the discussion by telling the majority leader directly that he would vote against the bill if the Medicare buy-in and public option provisions remained in it. Roll Call reports that Lieberman said he would also support a Republican filibuster of legislation that included these provisions.
So, what better way to celebrate than to laugh at Charles Durning doing his wonderful "sidestep" from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas I would not wish ill will on Lieberman or any other Senator, but I sincerely dedicate this video to ALL of them.
