Via the Examiner:
During an interview with Bloomberg's Al Hunt, South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint said he would find it troublesome if the country elected an openly gay president.
"It would be bothersome to me personally because I consider it immoral," DeMint said during the interview. When the issue of gay marriage came up, DeMint did not hold back from denouncing the notion.
"Marriage is a religious institution. The federal government has no business redefining what it is. Governments should not be in the business of promoting a behavior that's proven to be destructive to our society."
Here is the email I sent to him:
You know what, Senator DeMint? I'd rather have a President who is homosexual than a President who is white trash like you.
Take your regressive, ignorant, backward, intolerant "morality" back to your plantation.
DeMint exemplifies the white trash values that have infected and hijacked the Republican Party.
Now, I know some of you won't agree with me calling someone "white trash". But, unlike most of you, I was born and raised in West Virginia. I have the regional experience and, therefore, the right to call DeMint that.
It's very unfortunate that people like DeMint create a national stereotype of the South. I wonder how some gay 15 year old kid in South Carolina feels about his U.S. Senator declaring he is not moral enough to be President.
It's even more unfortunate that HR 2262, the Safe Schools Improvement Act of 2009, while having 91 co-sponsors in the House cannot make it out of subcommittee. HR 2262 would make federal monies available to schools to introduce anti-bullying programs and foster civil protections for gay and lesbian public school students.
I suppose Jim Demint and I don't worship the same Christ. And I hope that on the so-called Judgment Day, Jim Demint is forced to answer to every gay hate crime victim and every gay suicide victim.
