Hey guys, I am taking a few weeks off Dailykos to focus on the launch of a new web product I was working on. Obviously I can't divulge details on here, but, I am really excited about this new adventure I am taking.
Reading the Dailykos has been fun. I have been reading this site since the campaign of 2008. You guys can't understand how us, foreigners, see the US president as our president too. Because when your top guy screws up, we get screwed too... that is why I always have high interest in US politics here and then.
Recently though, I have seen the mood here going sour. People have come to think that may be the guy they elected sold them out. And now, the health care debate, isn't getting any better. The unemployment numbers look really really bad.
I might have a little bit of advice for my kossack friends, please lift your mood up. You might be unemployed, you might be short on cash, it might be the toughest times of your life, but think about it this way: Only you, yourself, can do something about it. Not Barack Obama, Not the US Senate, Not Pelosi, Not anybody.
Do not wait for the government to pass a jobs bill. You live in a country with thousands of opportunities, go out there and find them.
I am talking to you as somebody who was born in Africa. Became a refugee at a young age, and moved to Canada at the time the unemployment rate was around 7-9%. But ultimately, I knew, I have thousands of more opportunities than I had when I left Africa, I simply had to find them. Find them, I did.
But, I can credit one thing for my success, my never die attitude and always positive thinking mind.
I could have listened to my fellow Africans who told me that a black guy has no chance here in Canada and so that is why they were still on income assistance. I could have listened to my friends who told me that piling on debt to go to school is a bad idea because I will graduate and have to pay high interest rates in a bad labor market. But, I refused, I graduated, in difficult post dot com bust, I was able to bounce job to job, but ultimately I got what I wanted.
Now, I am not suggesting that people who are unemployed is because they have negative attitude towards life. No. It's not that I am saying. What I am saying is... If you live in America, you should not despair because, gosh, there are thousands of opportunities around you (believe me yes there are), and be upbeat and find them. America is not Africa. America was and is the land of opportunities. Just don't wait for the gvt to help you find them.
Please excuse my broken English, I wish I could write diaries in French.
I am out of here now for a few weeks. I might be back next spring for another interesting round of election fun. Peace.
