I am dumbfounded to see comments here and from outrageous liars like Mary Dumbass Landrieu that Candidate Barack Obama never promised a public option during the campaign.
That's bullshit. He did. From the debate with John McCain, October, 2008:
President Obama,
My little boy and I believed in you. We trusted you. We worked and walked
for miles for you. My little boy did it so his mother could get health
care and not die and leave him alone in the world. You had your
grandmother, he has no one but me.
He is nine-years-old and has no one but me, and you, his hero. Why would you do this? Why would you attack Howard Dean for trying to stand up for me? Why would you sell me and my little boy out with a deal with the very people who are fighting for me to die?
I am so ashamed of myself for holding you up to my little boy as someone who would always do the right thing, no matter what. The right thing is not a secret deal or to scare the country into supporting your sell-out of the people who count on you. How do you explain this to your own family?
Please, tell me how to explain this to my little boy? Please, what do I
tell him? That everyone lies? Everyone sells their soul? That he shouldn't
trust anyone? That the person he looked up to most in the world - you -
doesn't care if his mother dies if she gets sick? He doesn't have his
grandmother like you did. He has one person and he did all he could to
protect me. I am so proud of him, and so grateful to him. I wish what he
did wasn't in vain. I am so ashamed to know I asked him to trust you. I
was wrong. Why President Obama? What should I tell my little boy?
Writing this today, I felt like Cindy Lou Who talking to the Grinch as he pushed the family Christmas tree up the chimney. This feeling is what normal people feel upon seeing a completely backwards reaction to what is expected.
I have written about my little boy a lot here, and his hard work to see his hero elected. My little boy could identify with Barack Obama, who grew up in a single parent home, with a mom who struggled for health care. That's his story too.
I got confused there for a minute when I have read and heard comments that say that candidate Obama never promised a public option. I was sure that's why we spent hours and sacrificed so much to work to have him elected. I didn't think I made it up, but why then, are so many people saying he never promised it?
I looked it up today. He promised exactly this:
Quality, Affordable Choices
If You Don’t Have Insurance, the Obama Plan:
Creates a new insurance marketplace — the Exchange — that allows people without insurance and small businesses to compare plans and buy insurance at competitive prices.
Provides new tax credits to help people buy insurance.
Provides small businesses tax credits and affordable options for covering employees.
Offers a public health insurance option to provide the uninsured and those who can’t find affordable coverage with a real choice.
Immediately offers new, low-cost coverage through a national "high risk" pool to protect people with preexisting conditions from financial ruin until the new Exchange is created.
OFFERS A PUBLIC INSURANCE OPTION.
OFFERS A PUBLIC INSURANCE OPTION.
OFFERS A PUBLIC INSURANCE OPTION.
So I didn't dream this. It was real. Here is our President on video saying it:
The Obama Plan
So now that we have that cleared up, let's cut the crap. He promised it.
Please support Howard Dean,, in whatever way you can.
