This is going to be a short diary. I read the article on Salon how civilian contractors are being neglected after coming back from war.
The insurance companies are denying health care for them, and the Labor Department has not ensured the civilian contractor's health insurance pays their health costs.
Not all contractors are mercenaries

Some companies failed to renew their insurance. May be a public option would have helped them.
One company, Strategic Security Solutions, Inc., failed to renew its insurance as recently as last year, according to court records. The company did not return calls for comment.
When companies fail to buy insurance, contractors' medical care is put at risk.
