This Health Care "Reform" fight is The. Last. Straw.
Proud liberals and progressives have been sidelined long enough.
This time, it's not just about the "far left agenda." No, poll after poll has shown that there is HUGE support for real health care reform out there.
So why can't we get it passed?
What part of, "A large majority of Americans support the Public Option" don't you understand?
I have HAD IT. No more are progressives willing to be taken for granted. No more can it be presumed we'll vote for Democrats despite their obvious allegiance to the lobbyists from the insurance company. No more can they push legislation to the right, and to the right, and to the right, without losing us completely.
I don't want to be told I "have" to support the Senate's version of things because we "have" to get something passed.
I don't want to hear that unless we pass something--anything--Democrats will lose in 2010.
I don't want to hear that we're making the perfect the enemy of the good. All we want is something barely acceptable--but this is worse than nothing.
I don't want to be told that "we have no choice" but to support the Democratic candidate. Oh believe me, we have choices.
We have the choice to run a primary candidate against Obama in 2012 (Howard Dean, you interested?)
We have the choice to run and support other primary candidates for national office.
We have the choice to empower our GOOD representatives to vote against this bill in its current form. We have the choice to encourage them to change the Senate rules that have hamstrung our democracy and made it slave to the corporate sponsors of the smaller states.
Only when enough people join us will we have a voice that outweighs the insurance lobbyists. And progressives will continue to grow and grow as a force until politicians start listening. It's time to make our voice heard. It's time to set our hair on fire, go out there and say, "Enough is enough!"
People don't come to Daily Kos because someone is forcing them to, or telling them to, or paying them to. They come because they care enough about their country to be informed and to organize their efforts against the moneyed lobbyists. We're not some nebulous voice out there--we are PEOPLE. Congress, are you listening?
It's Democracy at stake this time. And if we don't take a stand now, now when the stakes are so high, when will we? Is this the future we want for our country?
