I had hoped that just this once, the wingers would turn down the rhetoric for the holidays. Well, I was wrong. Liberty Counsel's Matt Barber essentially says that those who say "Happy Holidays" may be closet Commie pinkos.
Are you as annoyed as I am by that nauseatingly amorphous phrase "Happy Holidays?" You may be interested to know that the mindset behind the term precedes America's postmodern love affair with political correctness, tracing back to good ole' fashioned Cold War Communism (PC's uglier big sister).
Indeed, today's secularist war on Christmas (yes, the one that, like God, many liberals deny exists) was waged, in large part, when Communists began attempting to supplant the deity of Christ (and His associated Judeo-Christian principles) with the false deity of the State.
Barber goes on to point out several instances where Communist regimes altered Christmas carols and stories to remove all reference to Jesus, etc. But then he goes over the top by comparing it to a Wisconsin elementary school altering the words to "Silent Night."
As wrong as this was, to compare this to Communist attempts to stamp out all religious expression is mind-blowingly extreme. But it shouldn't surprise anyone who has closely followed the religious right. Remember, their main objection to Communism wasn't the utter lack of freedom. No, no--it was because Communism taught there was no God.
Having gone off the deep end, Barber then goes further by comparing the displays in stores to Communist efforts to eradicate God.
(T)he PC police aren't satisfied merely to secularize every public forum in America. They've also badgered private companies, retailers, and even private citizens to the point that Christmas – a congressionally approved national Holiday since the 1800s – is now vaguely referred to as "the Holidays."
You need only watch television or walk through a shopping mall to see that nearly all reference to Christ or Christmas has been removed in a manner reminiscent of the aforementioned Soviet Union. ("Christmas Trees" are now "Holiday Trees" and snowmen stand-in for Jesus, Mary, and Joseph.)
So the next time you hear someone say "Happy Holidays," remember that what they're actually saying – perhaps innocently enough – is "Happy Holidays, Comrade." They're playing right into the secularist agenda that seeks to replace the God of the universe with the god of government.
So let's get this straight. Acknowledging Christmas isn't the only major winter holiday (hello, Hanukkah?) amounts to bullying of Christians? And not saying "Merry Christmas" is a sign that you're a Communist? The mind reels.
