I don't want to talk about politics on Christmas. I'm going to try to refrain completely. I'm sure I will fail, but I'm going to try and that's the important thing. ;-)
So, I thought I would share something of me with all you wonderful people.
When I was a child, my father took photographs. He had no training, no fancy lenses or expensive equipment. He started taking them when my brother was born. Mountains of photos of my brother as a baby. Lots of photos of me and of me and my brother when we were little. Less and less over the years.
I've taken some of his photos that I have, many are slides, and have manipulated them in Photoshop, as I am want to do. I'm a painter, I just am never satisfied with a photo right off the camera. I hold to Ansel Adams who said "I don't take a photograph. I make a photograph".
That's me. I think I'm 2 1/2. I still have those chubby knees.
That's me, too. I'm 12. This is Wyoming. I was forced to buy cowboy boots and a cowboy hat. Still, I'm trying to pull it off. Not that easy for a girl from DC.
My brother, sister and I, also in Wyoming. We were forced out of bed at 6 am just to have this picture taken in front of the Moran, WY post office. Our name is Moran. My father wanted a letter post marked from this post office.
When I grew up and left home I started taking pictures myself. I became a painter and I took photos to do paintings from.
A few years ago I started manipulating my photos. I seemed to like them to look less like photos and more like paintings. Someone recently said they had to look at them hard because they thought they were paintings. Which is odd because other people have said they thought my paintings were photos. I don't know what is up with that, but I paint less now and take pictures more.
I take a lot of photos from the car window.
And places I visit
And just this year I have gotten into Infrared Photography, which is very cool, very otherworldly.
But my very favorite thing to take photos of is my little friend, Bungee.
He could well be the last dog I have so I'm really lucky that he turned out to be so photogenic. I'm thinking of doing a photo children's book about him.
So, that's what I do, some of the time. Thanks for looking.
Let's get back to the good fight this weekend. Until then, have a great holiday. Take a photo or two.
