During our post-Christmasd-inner dinner, a sad yet interesting conversation popped up at the table:
Isn't racial profiling necessary in airports to prevent Muslim terrorism?
One of side of the argument: 90% of my family:
We need to use more security measures against Middle Eastern people than white grandmas because it's only Muslim men that try to blow up planes.
On the other side, only myself and my brother (whose girlfriend is Muslim):
It's not just religion that drives people towards terrorism. It's also oppression, economic instability, no hope of a prosperous future.
I brought up gang subculture in the United States, pointing out how disadvantaged youths join together in radicalized criminal syndicates for the sake of brotherhood and economic satisfaction. But to no avail.
I cannot stand religious discrimination, which has led to untold thens of millions of deaths throughout history. How can I stop my family's hatred of Islam? They are otherwise tolerant people: Pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, pro positive immigration reform. Yet anti-Islam.
What can I do?
