Timroff’s quilt top, “Terraced Garden”
Our friend, Brubs, suffers from AIDS. He has recently been in and out of the hospital, very sick with immune reconstitution syndrome. Let us lift him with some messages on a quilt of his own, something with which he can keep his online community close when he feels low. Even before the quilt is finished, your kind message to Brubs, left in a comment below, will begin to do its work. Brubs is really looking forward to having this blanket for he knows it will warm his spirit as well as his body. Community support goes a long way toward helping a friend find extra strength for healing.
What is a community message quilt – or “love catcher”? It is a colorful quilt filled with fabrics that are meaningful to the recipient and muslin patched inscribed with your messages in archival ink. The love that goes in does not wash out – I hope some people who have received these blankets will explain about that below.
If you would like to contribute to the cost to the quilt, please use this PayPal link or email me (see my profile for my address) if you would prefer to send a check. I usually figure the cost at $4 to $5 per message ($4 for the simple checkerboard designs and $5 for the more complicated pieced designs) – or roughly the cost of sending a greeting card – with a minimum of 44 messages for a simple quilt. Any excess that is collected will be rolled forward toward the cost of the next quilt – in fact, we are starting with a balance of $80 for Brubs' quilt. Do not think you need to donate to leave a message! Your kind words are the greatest gift -- they have more power to uplift than you may know.
