If you're using Internet Explorer 8 and you've been experiencing trouble with comments, or you know someone who has, this Very Special Edition of "DK Tech Support Monkey's Diary" is for you:
We've been getting a range of problem reports from users viewing the site in IE8. The two biggest problems are:
- browser lockup when clicking the "view comments" link for stories with >500 comments
- unexpected browser reload when composing a comment, resulting in loss of the comment. This is accompanied by one of those IE8 speech-balloon-message things indicating a switch to compatibility view.
We can't reproduce these problems consistently on our test systems, which is making it difficult to trace the source of the problem. While we're working on finding and fixing the root cause, there is a way for users to work around the issue:
Workaround:
Set IE8 to always use Compatibility View when loading dailykos pages.
- Go to the Tools menu, and select "Compatibility View Settings"
- When the compatibility settings panel comes up, enter "dailykos.com" (without the quotes) in the "Add this website" input box, and click the "Add" button
- close the settings panel; you should be good to go.
