Congressman Elton Gallegly (R-Ventura County, CA) has been targeted by Act Blue for the 2010 elections. I live in the district in which he has been winning since 1988, and frankly, I'm disgusted. I am sure this can be claimed of many Congressmen, but Gallegly is the most worthless, idiotic Representative the devil could wish upon anyone. To put it bluntly, he's in over his head. Here's an example: in the recent budget fight, he managed to eke out $14 mil for our district, 14 mil badly needed to improve our schools, roads and the like, just like many other districts. That should be a good thing, right? Yes. The only problem is he voted against that very same budget because it had TOO MANY EARMARKS!If that makes sense then I'm Elmer Fudd. He needs to be voted out. It is absolute necessity. In the recent elections, we Dems down here ran a nurse/one-time, part-time home-school computers teacher for elementary school kids from the remote edges of the district. Is this a joke? Simply and sadly put: Yes. Follow me below the fold and I'll offer an alternative to this mess.

Imagine a "small-town" south of Santa Barabara. This town is Ojai, California. In this town resides a woman of golden political profile just waiting to be funded to victory over this bumbling buffoon Gallegly. This woman is Kathi Smith. Her resume follows in a more accesible fashion than a list and a bunch of comma's:

-President of Ventura County School Board Association
-Ojai Unified School District Board Member for the last eleven years
-Graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass
-Graduate of Georgetown Law School
-Member of the CA Bar since 1985
-Mother of three children

On top of all that, fresh out of Law School she clerked on the Federal District Court for two years and then practiced law for the next eight years while birthing three children. When the youngest was a toddler, she chose to stay home with these high-maintenance kids, sacrificing her lucrative career in law. She raised her three kids until the last one was a junior in high school, fully capable of taking care of himself after school. The oldest daughter was parented to acceptance into Stanford University and the Univeristy of Southern Cal Psychology Phd. program. The older son/middle child was parented into UC Berkeley. The youngest son is currently collecting college acceptances. That info is supplied simply to highlight the "family-values" quality in her resume. She is a family woman through and through. She's even taught Catholic dogma to young people. She knows her stuff. She can beat Elton Gallegly.

Ventura County and America need someone to defeat him. Why not her? She's got the quality, we've got the time and the means to do it. In 2010 this district will be ready to unseat Gallegly. I am convinced that if people here knew the truth about his wayward practices and floundering belief in Reaganomics he would lose. People just don't know the truth here because no one puts it in front of their eyes. Just tonight there was a protest about lack of funding for schools in front of the Ventura County Governmetn building (as pointless as that is since the county governments do have anything to do with public school funding). The problem is people want the government to spend more money, but they don't want to pay taxes. If they were ever told that in order for the gov to spend more money it would need more tax revenues, they might change their protest. A well funded Kathi Smith could tell the people the truth about Gallegly and govern in a way that makes sense. And govern is the key word here. People are elected to Congress so they can govern, Gallegly clearly
has forgotten this in his 20 years in Congress.

By the way, for full disclosure, I am the youngest son. Also, Mrs. Smith is a Kossack

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
