After two disastrous election cycles, the Republican National Committee (RNC) has been trying come up with ways to once again pull in the one-armed midget vote, and one of those efforts was the:
2009 State of the Republican Party Survey
... an online survey designed to take the pulse of the party faithful.
Now the first section is pretty standard stuff; why did we lose, what are our strengths, our weaknesses, and so on. But then you move on to issues section, which is reads like an exam from the Frank Luntz School of Polling - a few examples:
- A recent national poll reported that nearly 25% of Americans want the government to pass more socialism. Do you agree or disagree?
- Do you oppose so-called "card-check" legislation, which eliminates secret ballot elections during unionization drives and puts workers at risk of intimidation by labor bosses?
- Should bureaucrats in Washington, DC be in charge of making your health care choices instead of you and your doctor?
- If Barack Obama tries to gut the USA PATRIOT Act and other important laws that promote the safety and security of all Americans, should Republicans in Congress fight back?
Comedy.
And this is funny ... from the party that's allegedly doing everything it can to shake the label, "The Party of No," check out the phrasing from several of the questions:
- Should Republicans unite to block ...
- Should we do everything we can to block ...
- Should we resist Barack Obama's proposal ...
- Should Republicans unite in opposition ...
- Should Republicans in Congress fight back ...
- Should we stop Democrat leaders ...
Sounds a lot like no, no, no, no, no, no, doesn't it?
Read the whole survey ... it's an interesting (or creepy - take your pick) look into the mindset of the Republican Party.
