Sigh. I promise, I really never intended to make this a series. When I first wrote Their Reality has Lapped Our Satire, about a statute in Tennessee, I thought it was a one-shot deal. Then came Their Reality has Lapped Our Satire, Again, another religion edition. There were probably five more, but none, NONE!, better than this. Seriously, I simply don't know how to satirize these guys any more. It's easier just to cross-post.
Really, I just don't know where to go from here. Indeed, this is so perfect I'm not completely sure it is not actually satire itself. I mean, if you wanted to satirize modern young Republicans what would you do? Yeah, you would put a couple of privileged white kids in blazers, have them make a "gangsta rap" video in a college classroom, and have a chorus extolling (a) soldiers spilling blood (while they rap and go to class), (b) Jesus, and (c) Ayn Rand (who had ZERO tolerance for religion of any kind).
I'm sorry, I don't normally take the easy way out when writing diaries, just cross-linking something first noted somewhere else (hat-tip to Talking Points Memo. But in this case, the only thing it left me wishing was that I had turned "Their Reality has Lapped Our Satire" into a registered trademark. I have a feeling it is going to get used quite a lot in the next few years.
If you think the video is precious, you should see some of the comments from the "rappers" themselves, like the one in response to their "soldiers bleed" chorus:
TheYoungCons: The sentiment of that section of the song you are referencing is not meant to propagate a pro-war attitude. Rather, we are just trying to acknowledge the freedoms our soldiers' sacrifices grant us.
or
TheYoungCons: I am aware of Ayn Rand's views of religion. I am also aware of her views of self-reliance in the political system. I combine her POLITICS with my Christian beliefs.
I've heard of "cafeteria Catholics," but "cafeteria Galts"?!?
So what do you think, brilliant satire, or has their reality lapped our satire, again?
