Here's a clip of my fiancee and me:
She's gorgeous, right? Inside and out. I can't imagine living in a world where I wouldn't be allowed to marry her. But, 50 years ago, we couldn't get married in much of America. We can only freely enjoy our relationship because millions of Americans stood up for our civil rights. Now is the time for all of us to stand up for the civil rights of our LGBT brothers and sisters. Follow me around the fold to find out what you can do in New York
New York's Governor David Paterson bravely supports marriage equality:
The New York State Assembly passed a marriage equality bill. Unfortunately, some state Senators do not support it. I have been told that Western Queens is a "conservative" region and that most of my neighbors do not support marriage equality. Yeah right. Queens is the most diverse place in America; there are more languages spoken in Queens than in any other city in America. And that diversity is a strength. We want our friends and neighbors to have the same rights that we have.
Unfortunately, Democratic State Senator George Onorato, who represents much of Western Queens, currently publically opposes marriage equality (although we have worked hard to change the Senators mind and we are confident we will be able to do so if enough people join us).
Democratic Senator Huntley, Republican Senator Padavan, and Democratic Senator Addabbo of Queens currently oppose marriage equality. Also, the Senate Majority Leader, Malcolm Smith, is a Queens senator and Smith neds to act for marriage equality to pass.
We need to change their minds. We are having a rally in Athens Park in Astoria, Queens tomorrow night from 6:00-8:00. Take the N/W train to 30th Avenue and join us (10 minutes from Manhattan). This rally will feature numerous elected officials - including Councilmembers Eric Goia, David Weprin, John Liu and, likely Peter Vallone. Broadway and television performers at the rally have appeared in: Rent, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Flower Drum Song, The King and I, Spelling Bee, Good Vibrations, and Mary Poppins, and on the television shows Guiding Light and Hi-5. Most importantly, the rally will feature
real people of all ages, races, religions and sexual orientations. Come show the world that Queens believes in Civil Rights and that marriage is a human right that should not be denied on the basis of sexual orientation.
To find out more about the rally go to: the facebook event page and Western Queens for Marriage Equality and Marriage Equality New York. Please join us!!!
Call your Senator! We need their votes.
