Forgive the lack of political talk in this diary....can it pass the test, since it's written by a politician? Please?
OK, here's my statement and my theory.
Statement - (originally made in July) - The Boston Red Sox will win the World Series in 2004.
Theory - Because I visited Boston this year, for the Democratic National Convention.
You see, there is a streak that I carry with me. It may sound silly or ridiculous, but it works. Whenever I visit a city that has a sports team without a championship for a very long time, they win the title that year.
1994 - I visit New York City for a week with my girlfriend. Shortly after, the Rangers win their first Stanley Cup in 40 years.
1998 - My wife and I live in Knoxville, Tennessee, home of the Volunteers. That season, The Vols win their first National Championship in college football.
2002 - In June, I protest Bush by turning my back on him at Ohio Stadium (that's a big story in itself). That season, the Buckeyes win their first National Chapionship in 34 years.
2002 - In October, I visit California for a job interview with Pacifica Radio. I pass through Anaheim, whose baseball team wins their first World Series three weeks later.
2004 - I visit Boston for the DNC. History awaits the Red Sox.
Oh, and I'd like to point out that I do NOT like the Red Sox. I'm an Indians fan by choice and have never liked the BoSox. But I gotta hold true to my streak.
