If you're knowledgeable about the labor movement, you know that May 1st is traditionally a workers' holiday worldwide. In Europe, May Day is still celebrated with massive marches by trade unions. It's time to reclaim this holiday here in the U.S. with a general strike for immigrant rights. Don't go to work or school on May 1st! Show solidarity with immigrants whose rights are under attack!
Immigrant Solidarity has already initiated a call for this action, but it is slowly being endorsed by other organizations. What is of utmost importance is that non-immigrants show their solidarity with the immigrant community. While the huge number of immigrants could certainly impact the economy, imagine how much more powerful this will be if EVERYONE in the movement stays home.
