Have a seat and prepare yourself for a short stroll through bizarro land...
First some intelligent commentary on this idiot's latest publicity stunt...
They’re claiming that Darwin’s ground-breaking work "The Origin of Species" is an anti-evolution book. You almost have to bow down before such invincible stupidity. Verily, it gets no dumber than this.
Funny, but you're not seeing what I'm getting at, right? Well how about an update on the Birther queen, Orly Taitz?
Another Birther case has been thrown out of court, this one brought by a female Army captain trying to refuse redeployment to Iraq because she believes Barack Obama is a sekrit Moslem furriner.
And her lawyer, the whacked out queen of the Nirthers, Orly Taitz, has been warned that she could face sanctions if she continues filing these ludicrous, frivolous lawsuits.
Will this finally put a stop to the Nirther nuts and their crack-brained conspiracy theories? Don’t hold your breath.
Now you're probably saying "Good to see her getting laughed out of court moderate by extremes, but what does this have to with anything?" To which I respond, "keep going humble reader..."
Here’s an excellent exposé at Salon by Alexander Zaitchik, on one of the main ideological sources for Glenn Beck’s extremist rhetoric — a paleo-right crank connected to the John Birch Society named Cleon Skousen, whose bizarre book ("The 5,000 Year Leap") Glenn Beck has been relentlessly promoting
Ok, so now some block quoted info on the craziness of Glenn "we fear for his sanity"Beck, once again, you're probably wondering when I'm going to get to the point. Again dear reader, don't walk out before you get to the best part...
Brendan Nyhan has a good post on the spread of the two million protestor myth across the right wing blogosphere — one of the most embarrassing episodes I’ve witnessed among people who pride themselves on "fact checking."
After all, who cares about basic fact checking when there’s an ideology to be promoted?
Ok, you've waited long enough and you're probably curious how long I spent on DKos cribbing all of these quotes from diaries. This is where bizarro world starts and reality is apparently on a long smoke break...
You see, none of this came from Daily Kos, Talking Points Memo, or anywhere else that could be considered a "left-wing" source.
The above quotes were ripped right from the front page of Little Green Footballs
For those of you unfamiliar with the site, LGF was a blog started by winger Charles Johnson. Four years ago the place was a font of disinformation, climate change denialism, and Republican propaganda. Lo and behold, today Johnson is calling out the more odious tendencies of his party and playing whack-a-mole with the teabaggers.
Now on any given day the average progressive isn't likely to find a lot of common ground with Johnson's site. While he's always been on the non-crazy side of the creationist/Darwinist debate he's taken more than his fair share of stands that would get you (or at least in my opinion, should get you) drummed out of a meeting of Center for American Progress fellows. Imagine my surprise when I saw that nearly everything on his front page could have been taken right off of Daily Kos!
While I'm certainly not advocating the position that LGF has had a "come to Jesus" moment like John Cole did last year, I am willing to give out credit where it's due and take a moment to point out one conservative who is willing to call out the nuttier elements of his party.
I'm not saying that Johnson is right on most issues, or really, any issues, but I am gracious enough to say thanks for showing that there are some people on the right who do not approve of the freak-show that has come to dominate the GOP over the last couple of years. While I'm positive that LGF and Dkos will continue to cross swords on an almost daily basis, I'm more than willing to admit that I'd trade GOP'ers like Johnson for the current side show that's been driving the Republican party straight into Jesusland any day of the week.
