It’s a new day, and you've got to do something to help clear the cobwebs from last night. So please take a creative moment to reflect upon the past decade with a political poetry writing contest! I can’t offer any swag for the winner, but know that your contribution will earn the respect and admiration of your fellow Kossacks. I’ll start things off with my own creation, a simple little ditty called "The George Bush Blues." Happy New Year, Everyone!
ps- please title your entry. If enough people participate, I'll add a poll where we can vote for a winner.
The George Bush Blues
I got them George Bush Blues
I got them George Bush Blues
Folks near and far got ‘em, too.
Chances are, they bother you.
Don’t know what we’re gonna do,
Bout them George Bush Blues.
Sent our troops to Iraq,
Said we needed to attack.
Lied about WMD,
Said we’ll find ‘em, yesiree!
But what we found in double ought four,
Rummy gave them years before.
Now Iraq has got ‘em, too.
They got them George Bush Blues.
Says he worships every day.
Says that Jesus hates them gays.
Tell me, which Jesus has he seen?
Cuz the One I know ain’t so mean.
God’s love sustains the poor,
He don’t take bribes from the likes of George.
Tell me, which prayers should I use?
To get rid of my George Bush Blues.
Cast my ballot in a box.
Watched Election Night on Fox.
Take a guess at what they said?
If you guess Kerry, you been misled.
Ain’t no way George’ll choke,
With Diebold countin’ up the vote.
But what can a democracy do,
Against them George Bush Blues?
Watched the levees burst with rain,
Eating cake with John McCain.
Played guitar while New Orleans burned,
Told us all that he had learned:
When it’s time to steal and rob,
The G.O.P. does a heckuva job!
What’s our country coming to,
With them George Bush Blues?
Why do they make me feel so bad?
Sometimes I’m angry, sometimes I’m sad.
They hurt my body. They hurt my mind.
They drive me crazy. They rob me blind.
Got so tired of being afraid
Poured me a glass of red Kool-Aid
Now I can finally sit and snooze
Free of the George Bush Blues!
