This is just utterly shameful, even for a biased Republican-favoring pollster like Scott Rasmussen. Since the right wing noise machine is whining about the president being "too kind" to terrorists and calling for a return to Bush/Cheney practices in the wake of the attempted terrorist attack at the Detroit airport, the Republicans' favorite pollster went on the task of polling how many people favor torturing the suspect, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. It's just so shameful to see a pollster to poll something that's illegal and inhumane. Worse yet, if this poll is accurate, it reveals a horrible sentiment in our nation.
More below the fold.
I won't link to Rasmussen's site, but I will link the TPM article accompanying the poll results.
From Talking Points Memo:
The poll asked: "Should waterboarding and other aggressive interrogation techniques be used to gain information from the suspected bomber?" The result was 58% yes, to only 30% who said no.
According to the internals, male and younger voters were more in favor of torture than female and older voters. Also, Republicans and those unaffiliated with either major party favor torture more than Democrats.
I just don't know what to say. I know it's Rasmussen Reports and the numbers are likely somewhat skewed and this really isn't an issue that's up to popular vote, but still, I find this troubling if these poll results ring true. Are we really so desensitized that we're okay with torture? Are we so punch drunk from the Bush Administration that we're now submissive? What's happened to us???? Are we becoming emotionless pod people like in "Invasion of the Body Snatchers"?
I just don't understand it.
