I've really been dumbstruck lately by the absolute unanimity in Republican ranks as they lambaste President Obama on nearly every front of his administration. It seems as though no matter what he does or says, they manage to spin it in a manner which is almost ridiculously out of touch with reality. And then there's Dick Cheney. . .
How a man could have served as a Congressman, a Senator, a Sec. of Defense, a White House Chief of Staff AND as a Vice President and to then be able to turn around and openly and viciously attack a sitting President of the United States during a time of war (over strategy, no less) is the sort of thing one only expects to find in a bad science fiction film. I can't believe that there aren't some sort of private channels open to Cheney that he could use to communicate his disagreements with Obama. And as much as I despise President Bush and the horrific mess he managed to make in eight years, he at least has the basic decency to keep his mouth shut regarding his successor's policies.
All of which got me to wondering how the GOP would be spinning things if Obama were one of their own. When you look at some of the crazy directions Bush dragged the GOP into over eight years in office -- nation building??? -- a lot of what Obama is currently doing -- think Afghanistan -- isn't really too out of the realms of possibility for a Republican President -- although Health Care Reform would probably have gone in a different direction. If Obama were a Republican, the GOP would walk in a synchronized goose step as they supported him on every one of his initiatives (the way they always do) because when you become a Republican these days, you take some sort of Loyalty Oath and vote as ONE, just the way they used to do in the Kremlin. So who're the real communists today?
