Could 2010 be known as the turning point where the Republican Party and their warring factions (Teabaggers vs. Paulites vs. LaRouchies vs. John Birchers vs. Palinettes) finally takes teh Stoopid to levels never reached by man or alien life forms evah before?
Probably. In fact, it's very likely. Let's go below and discuss.
We progressives have been sitting back and watching the implosion that is currently happening within the Republican Party for some time now. Will that implosion stop the average ignorant-of-reality voter from still voting for them come November? It depends. That question can only be answered by time and how much effort is put into their continued knocking each other off in their Circular Firing Squad of Purity in the next 10 months. From where I stand, I see them trying to be Democrats all of a sudden and working their collective asses off to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory this year.
We've already witnessed the melt down last year of the McSame / Palin camps going at each other like crazed holiday shoppers at a Filene's Basement white sale. We've seen what happened in the NY-23 Congressional race where the teabaggers took down their only possible winning candidate in the person of Dede Scozzafava for their favored purist konservative candidate, Doug Hoffman. Democrat Bill Owens then won the contest due to teabaggin' ignorance. Wait until their favorite Crazservative, Marco Rubio in Florida wins the Republican nomination for Senator and then loses to the Democrat in the race. Much Republican head scratchin' will ensue.
We've also witnessed the insanity of the birthers, deathers, race baiters and climate deniers.
I mean, what more can these people DO to scream out like a neon colored Goodyear Blimp cruising at 200 ft. above every American's head that says "Republicans! We are f'n CRAZY?"
Much more, it would seem. Instead of taking a step back and looking at the picture rationally and then coming up with a game plan for taking back Congress in 2010, these asswipes are actually doubling down on teh stoopid and continuing to go after President Obama with their mantra of how he has killed the American economy and is soft on terrorism.
Democrats will have ZERO problems overcoming this line of rhetoric from the right, and it confuses the absolute hell out of me as to why Republican either don't or refuse to see the light when it comes to this obvious conclusion.
The Economy:
The recession started two years ago. GWB was Presnit then. The housing market started melting down two years ago. GWB was Presnit then. The banks / financial services markets started failing two years ago. Ditto. President Obama and the Democratic Congress have averted the impending Depression that was hanging over our heads by taking action, whether you agree with all of it, some of it or very little of it. Either way, they took action and the bottom didn't fall out.
Dem's will point this out, ad nauseum over the next election cycle and take away this talking point once and for all as a political downer for themselves. Sure, the wingers will still keep screaming about it, but the American people have been through a lot of BS rhetoric during the Bush Administration and are a bit less open to being taken as suckers by mindless bumper sticker slogans. The Republicans will just end up looking more stoopid and less trustworthy than they do today. Yikes!

Soft on Terror:
This joke of a meme cannot be pursued without more loss of faith from Americans because of some very simple facts that Dem's will point out daily if not hourly when confronted by the lack of real evidence that wingers are bringing to the game.
Presnit Bush was warned of the impending attack before September 11, 2001 and wrote if off by telling the intelligence officer that gave him the news "OK, you've covered your ass." He also never took going after Osama bin Laden seriously and as of today, the Kingpin of Terror is still a free man. Once his favorite war for profit began in Iraq, Bush never took any kind of real interest in fighting the actual terrorists that attacked us because he was having Halliburton Oil Dreams instead. Not to mention, when Teh Shoe Bomber (not to be confused with the underwear bomber) tried to blow up a plane during Bush's term, the media didn't get crazy, the Dem's didn't get crazy and Bush didn't mention it for many, many days until after the incident. Don't think the Dem's won't tell this tale often and loud. Don't think the American people won't hear them.

The Republicans are still without any ideas and have no compass, moral or otherwise with which to guide them forward in 2010. All they have is teh crazy and teh stoopid to continue to throw against the wall and hope some of it sticks. We've all discussed this before, but realize that it is coming to fruition.
Hey Republicans? The American people watched you pull this rabbit out of the hat for eight long and agonizing years. That wall you are throwing your lies against has been Teflon coated since you last looked. Your rhetoric isn't sticking to anything anymore. Furthermore, your inability to notice that people are pointing and laughing at you isn't helping your cause one iota either.
