In anticipation of the BCS National Championship game to be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, I offer these words of wisdom:
Hook 'em Horns!
Yes, I realize that in doing so, I invite all the Texas haters to spew their venom my way. And, really, who could blame them? I know we shamed ourselves by palming George Bush off as someone who could govern a state, let alone the United States, but when he ran for president in 2000, we really didn't think the voters of America would actually elect him. Oh, wait, they didn't!
Since we have to accept partial blame for the Bush presidency, we humbly ask that you at least remember that we ALSO gave you Molly Ivins, Ann Richards, and that arguably unlovable, but highly effective, Lyndon Johnson. When it comes to democratic presidents, with the possible exception of Franklin Roosevelt, it is hard to come up with one who rammed through more progressive legislation than Lyndon Johnson -- the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act, Medicare, Medicaid, Head Start, Food Stamps.
Come visit us in Texas and we'll take you to the LBJ Library in Austin. And, speaking of Austin, home of the University of Texas:
Hook 'em Horns!
