The expression "between a rock and a hard place" is from the myth that navigating a ship through the Strait of Messina (located between Sicily and Calabria in Italy) was so treacherous that: in avoiding the sea monster Scylla a ship could come too close to the sea monster Charybdis and vice versa. The path you chose would have consequencess of either losing a few sailors or damaging the hull of your ship
Critics have said that it's taken President Obama too long to go before the public to calm our fears about the safety of flying.
For this afternoon's address I give President Obama an A-. He's avoided sinking the ship, losing any of his sailors, and appears not to have gotten yet another grey hair.
The inescapable threat of this speech was: How does President Obama assure the public that it's safe to fly and "not place the blame".
Should President Obama have applied a governmental-guillotine and rolled a head or two, by firing an incompetent?
Below the fold: The last public guillotine execution of career criminal thief/murderer Eugene Weidmann in France, 1939. 4:20 - 4:40 where the head is severed, then the severed head is tossed into a large basket that will also carry the remaining body.
