Two of the three stooges (MaCain, Lieberman and Graham) on an overseas Senate Junket stopped in Isreal today and were on CNN. Some of their comments as usual were over the top, even for them.
They have decided people need to be fired and since President Obama stated the "buck stopped on his desk" and he was taking responsibility for the government actions or inactions in relation to the Detroit plane incident on December 25, 2009. This is not enough for them, they want someone fired, and apparently it does not matter who, just somebody so it will show he is "tough on terror" I guess nothing displays toughness other than firing someone does.
From the Senators: Punish US officials over airline plot
"At the National Counterterrorism Center, something went wrong," said Lieberman, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. "So if human errors were made, I think some of the humans who made those errors have to be disciplined so that they never happen again."
In other comments, McCain, R-Ariz., said Abdulmutallab should have been treated like an enemy combatant and should not be tried in a civilian court. Sen. Jack Reed, D-R.I., disagreed, saying that the U.S. has charged and convicted hundreds of individuals in civilian courts since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
"It's an effective way to seek justice," Reed said. "It takes away the aura that the al-Qaida elements try to project, that these are soldiers, these are warriors, these are carrying a fight on. They're criminals."
I will be the first to admit, I don't have any access to any of the intelligence that these elected Senators have access to, but I have to agree with Senator Jack Reed (a military veteran by the way, one of the few left in elected office) that by not making them soldiers of Al Qaeda by declaring the "Christmas Day Bomb Plotter for Nigeria" an "enemy combatant" and throwing him into a brig and hauling him in front of a military tribunal and keeping him in the federal justice system, just as the Bush Administration did with Richard Reid, the "shoe bomber" it makes them just "common criminals" not soldiers of Jihad or failed "martyrs", just the low level cretins they really are.
It's the Senators that truly bother me more than the "terrorists" it is their comments and actions that are doing more harm to this nation, by their constant refusal to support the Commander in Chief, in anything, his choices in military matters or in domestic issues. Senator McCain had accused him of attempting to "bankrupt this nation" I can't remember the same accusation when President Bush pushed thru the largest spending program in history with NO WAY to pay for it other than just adding it to the deficit annually the Medicare Part D program. McCain continues to prattle about "pork varrel spending" one years annual pork barrel spending does not come close to what the spending on this program costs the taxpayers annually. Just McCain and his friends made sure that we could not bargain with the drug companies for lower costs like the VA does, nor could seniors order the meds thru Canadian pharmacies at lower costs.
At the National Counterterrorism Center, something went wrong," said Lieberman, the chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee. "So if human errors were made, I think some of the humans who made those errors have to be disciplined so that they never happen again."
I seem to remember some democrats in Congress wanted Joe Lieberman to pay for some of the serious lapses he made that went against the democratic values, something that a member of the "party would not do" that attempted to harm the party. He actively campaigned and made comments to the detriment of Senator Obama in the General election, he endorsed Senator McCain, he campaigned actively for McCain and the worst insult he campaigned for Sarah, inplying she was up to being the President if necessary, that should be the straw that breaks the camels back, yet President Elect Obama intervened with the Senate Leadership and stopped them from retaliating against the turn coat Senator, and even encouraged that seat the "traitorous bastard" with the Chairmanship of the Homeland Security Committee.
When the people on Capitol Hill can NOT be trusted to act as good "citizens" that Presient Obama asked for them to do last week, and have chosen to turn a "terrorist incident" into a political version of "medicine ball" then they should be ready to play "hardball" I am sure Rahm Emanual knows how to play with the best of them, even without resorting to mailing dead fish to them.
I have been dealing with the government my entire life and one thing I can say for certain, NEVER in my life have I ever seen a "review" of a "screw up" start, be completed and disseminated to the American public in two weeks as President Obama demanded from the national Security team over this "mess" President Bush and VP Cheney would never admit to a screw up much less have an investigation into how it happened and release it to the American public, let alone a Congressional committee in two weeks.
I SALUTE President Obama for his leadership during this crisis, even during his much deserved Christmas Vacation. Liz Cheney can stick her "24 Hour" style commercial where the sun don't shine, I much prefer President Obama and VP Joe Biden to the life and leadership we had under President Bush and her father the worst Vice President in American history Richard B Cheney, and that is saying a lot, given Agnew, Nixon, and the ones who were totally forgettable. None did anything as as evil nor infamous as Dick Cheneyn and his torture regime.
