Today, Tuesday January 12, is the environmental group 1Sky's Day to Call your Senators for Clean Energy Legislation!
Please consider calling or emailing (though 1Sky is really pressing phone calls) your senators to ask them to support legislation supporting clean energy and limiting CO2 emissions.
More info below...
1Sky has made it really easy to call your senators in support of clean energy legislation. Click here to go to their web page with all of the details. They will even connect you to your senators' offices. You don't even need to know the office numbers.
Here is more information from their web page:
Since the Senate passed their bill last month, health care is no longer an excuse to delay climate action. It is passed time Congress gave climate legislation the attention it deserves.
It's time for the Senate to make climate a priority. The planet cannot wait any longer for an effective plan to reduce global warming pollution.
The most critical move right now is for your senator to vote against the Murkowski Amendment. It would take away the Clean Air Act's ability to control the emissions of dirty coal plants.
We need to get to work creating a healthy, clean energy economy. Every day the climate bill is delayed Americans lose out on good, green jobs.
It's up to us. Call your senators today and tell them that there have already been too many giveaways to dirty coal and the American people don’t want another bailout for an out-of-date industry.
There are so many good reasons to pass this legislation this year. They are reviewed repeatedly in wonderful diaries on this and other sites daily.
One good reason to support this is to prevent the US from being left behind in the race to develop the new "green" jobs that will come from the industries that will grow from pricing and limiting CO2. Tom Friedman (who I know isn't a favorite around here), discusses this frequently in his columns:
We are either going to put in place a price on carbon and the right regulatory incentives to ensure that America is China’s main competitor/partner in the E.T. revolution, or we are going to gradually cede this industry to Beijing and the good jobs and energy security that would go with it.
"Big Carbon" is surely getting their supporters to call. We need to beat their efforts.
