If you are like me the Daily Howler is a daily must read. It is not only one of the oldest media watch blogs, it is also one of the best. Starting back in 1998 before Media Matters or the Great Orange Satan the Daily Howler was standing by, keyboard at the ready, to warn us of the status quo talking points or simply destructive gossip (ala Maureen Dowd) the mainstream media was trying to pass off as news or "analysis". For over 11 years Bob Somerby has done this without donations and advertising, and now on the cusp of one of most important projects to date, he is asking for us to support him.
In the run up to his new book, "How He Got There, the press corps' war against Candidate Gore: How George W. Bush reached the White House", he is launching a companion blog and asking the netroots for some support. If he is successful this book has the potential to force the media to account for the outright lies they created and amplified that handed the Presidency to George W. Bush on a silver platter.
Here is a taste of his new site:
Greetings! And welcome to how he got there:
In the coming months, this site will present a book about one of the most consequential elections in American history–the 2000 White House campaign between George W. Bush and Al Gore. At issue is an historical question:
How did George W. Bush reach the White House? How in the world did he get there?
More specifically, How He Got There will explore the mainstream press corps' poisonous coverage of this history-changing campaign. This book thus discusses a remarkable episode in modern press history–an episode the liberal world has generally failed to explore.
Few are in a position to tell this story, fewer still have been trying to tell this story from the very beginning. If he is successful he will go a long way toward inoculating other liberal politicians from the same mainstream media smears Al Gore faced. This while he continue to help develop winning progressive messaging that upends the Republican Lie Machine.
On his own the Daily Howler has been a formidable force. With our help his work could gain the critical mass it needs to alter our media landscape. We all know that is desperately needed. So I ask you to join me and donate whatever you can afford to the Daily Howler.
p.s. If you cannot afford a donation at this time (very understandable given the current state of things) please consider recommending this diary so other who can donate may see this, thx)
