(Partial spoiler alert. I was careful not to reveal too much though.)
When will the Vatican and conservatives in general learn that their criticism of movies only adds to their appeal?
They're proabably rightly concerned about how devastating the message in Avatar will be to their doctrine of imperialistic, neo-fascist corporatism. And so the Vatican has now added Avatar to its list of movies that it feels threatened by, see below.
How ironic. Coming from the philosophical descendants of the people who gave out smallpox tainted blankets to Native Americans during their genocidal campaign against them. How quaint.
Anyone who has seen Avatar knows that conservatives in the audience were quirming. Of course, they should feel like the small, brainwashed, evil fucks that they are per their support of environmental degradation, mass murder for profits (see Iraq), campaigns of genocide going back 1685 years since their doctrinal adulterating inception at the Council of Nicea of 325AD.
The whole movie is a critique of small-brained conservatives and their worn-out doctrines of hate. Anyhow, here's their "critique"...
The Vatican newspaper and radio station are criticizing James Cameron's 3-D blockbuster for flirting with the idea that worship of nature can replace religion — a notion the pope has warned against. They call the movie a simplistic and sappy tale, despite its awe-inspiring special effects.
"Not much behind the images" was how the Vatican newspaper, L'Osservatore Romano, summed it up in a headline.
"Not much behind the images."
Nope. Not much. Just a blistering critique of genocide committed by the Catholic church over 2 millenia. Just a devastating broadside against conservatives' neo-fascist doctrine of hate, dehumanization, genocidal mass murder, corporatist greed, etc. etc. etc.
Apparently, the wingnuts are too stupid as well to keep their mouths shut as noted by the same article:
An LA Times blog noted that the movie "has inflamed the passions of right-wing bloggers and pundits."
"Cameron incensed many voices on the right by acknowledging of-the-moment messages about imperialism, greed, ecological disregard and corporate irresponsibility," it said.

I would go and find some of the whining but we've all heard their boring whining before.
This movie is part of a long tradition of movies aimed at the heart of conservative evil in the world.
And the white Marine-like character being the "messiah" criticism? Stupid. More conservatives that can't take the criticism.
How can even the smallest-brained conservative argue against saving the environment in the face of knowledge that we need 2 planet Earths by 2050?
Do they really hate THAT much?
Are they really that brainwashed?
Really?
They have children too.
Really?
