I read something alarming in the Detroit Free Press this morning. Denise Illitch may be running for governor.
White House officials and President Barack Obama met Tuesday with University of Michigan regent Denise Ilitch to discuss her possible candidacy for governor, according to a White House official who asked not to be named.
.......
Also, former state treasurer Bob Bowman is considering a Democratic run for governor, according to several Democratic sources. Bowman helped start and runs MLB.com, professional baseball’s web site.
And DTE Energy chairman Tony Earley is being courted, too.
I don't know Bowman, but I don't like these latest names recruited.
Last I checked, Michigan is a democratic state. Our democrats are also for working families by and large. Our pro-life democrats are for working families. David Bonior, Dale Kildee, and even Bart Stupak have consistently been on the side of working families on economic issues. Besides them, we also have John Dingell, John Conyers, John and Deb Cherry, Dianne and Barb Byrum, Debbie Stabenow (usually), and sometimes Jennifer Granholm and Carl Levin.
We do not need DINOs. We do not need corporate democrats like Denise Ilitch. We do not need DTE energy chairmen. We really do not need Andy Dillon. We need those who fight for the middle class.
I don't know for a fact whether President Obama is asking Denise Ilitch to run as the newspapers asked. I know that others have asked.
I look at this donation list and I see a real opportunist. Ilitch was Granholm's good friend, but seems to have become a democrat when she decided to run for university regent. I also remember hearing in the news Republicans trying to recruit her to run against Stabenow in 2006. To her credit, she declined.
This loses my support:
2003 - George W Bush. $2000. This donation wasn't made in Texas. This wasn't even made in 1999 where a buyer's remorse claim. This is a donation three years after Chimpy the Chump was maybe elected.
2003 - Candice Miller - $1000 - She is a self described "George W Bush" Republican. What's she done for us?
She gave to the elder Bush as well. The democrats I see on that list are also more of the corporate variety by and large until recently. I do not see John Dingell's name mentioned, or John Conyers, or Bonior. I can understand giving to one particular republican based on a business interest or an issue like the auto industry. I can not understand how some supposed democrat donate $2000 to the Chimp for his re-election campaign. That shows bad judgment at best and DINOism at worst. I can not vote for that, even in the general election. If Dillon or Ilitch is the nominee, I will be writing in David Bonior.
Luckily, I have other choices besides a Chimp donor and a DINO like Dillon. I am considering Virg Bernero, Alma Wheeler Smith, and Hansen Clarke. Any of those three would be better than Chimp donor and Andy DINO.
I think a message needs to be sent to leadership. The "fiscal conservative and social liberal" candidates like Ilitch are unacceptable. So is the "fiscal conservative" and "social conservative" candiate like Dillon.
Now more than ever, we need candidates who support the middle class and working class Americans. DTE, Dillon, and Ilitch do not do that.
