I could not believe it when I came across this ad against Giannoulias in the Huffington Post. Even more, I could not believe it when I found that there is this site, entitled "Alexi the unelectable".
What is shocking is that these sites are not sponsored by a right wing republican or Mark Kirk, but by a democrat, David Hoffman.
I am stunned of how negative and destructive Hoffman has gone on Giannoulias, who is leading the polls right now for winning the democratic nomination for the IL senate seat of Barack Obama. As I wrote in this diary a couple of days ago, up to very recently I was considering even voting for Hoffman. I decided not to, after watching the IL senatorial debate, for a variety of reasons, including the fact that Hoffman was extremely negative in the debate, and also because Giannoulias came across as a much better candidate in that debate. So, I have decided to vote for Giannoulias.
But I am really stunned that Hoffman would go to that level. Create such a mud and smear site against another democrat. I have no doubt that Mark Kirk or whoever the republican nominee ends up being, will use that site of Hoffman against Giannoulias in the general election. I can already see the republicans pointing out that another democrat thought Giannoulias had ethical problems, etc etc. It reminds me of the attacks against Obama in 2008, relating to Wright and Rezko. Except that this time they are coming from a democrat.
I think David Hoffman's campaign has reached a new low in a democratic primary. In my opinion he should withdraw such smear ads and attacks, because they hurt our chances in November.
