I'll probably get a lot of bad comments for this. So be it. We had our chance to get what we wanted. That time is passed.
Now we have to find a way to compromise. That won't be easy. But there are ways to get that done.
The key is moderate votes. Ruling from one extreme means not enough votes to get anything done. The key has been the middle, it will be for sometime. Go ahead, fire away.
Obama and the party had a perfect chance to get things done. Harry Reid frittered it away by not aggressively going ahead on Health Care. This should have been passed 2 months ago. It easily could have. Now Health Care is dead.
Reid just doesn't have the stomach to change the filibuster rule. I wish he did but he won't. He is a very cautious man, slow to act, slower to lead. We will never know if Hillary or someone else in the Senate could have got this done but his unwillingness to find out what it took for so long now has doomed the change.
Obama won because he appealed to Moderates. Look at all the Moderate states he won, look at all the places we picked up seats. We have lost most of that vote, at least for now. To continue to lead, he must get them back. There is only one pace to start, a Jobs Bill.
People want their jobs back. Starting a jobs bill would force Republicans to vote against it. That won't be easy and will make a perfect platform to run against them. Moderates will have to look at that very carefully in both Houses. Carville was right, it is the economy stupid.
Oh I know, Obama saved millions of jobs and job loss is almost stopped. He did, we did but it isn't enough. Sadly, all that means to the average American is the ship is no longer taking on water. It is time to pump it out. So start on a Jobs Bill next week.
Second, get Banking Regulation moving at even a faster pace. Dodd is working on it, now he has the time and the chance to get the momentum back. Force the Republicans to vote against that as well. That is how you set the stage for the mid-terms. Banks blew up the economy, force Republicans to vote against that.
Come on Mitch, Eric and company, vote against a Jobs Bill. Vote against some re-regulation of Banks. I double dog dare you.
I won't go state by state but look at moderate Senators and what their unemployment rates are. Look at what states have the highest percentage of foreclosures.
We MUST run to the middle to get the high ground. If we continue now to say my way or the highway, we may end up with neither.
