Outside of the fact that the seat in question was a Kennedy birthright and no one even close to resembling said "American Royalty" was attempting to win it, why would we be surprised that someone such as Brown succeeded?
We have put Bush in the White House...TWICE. (And I don't mean father and son. HW had a sleeve full of background and qualifications). Allen in Va. was a stone's throw away from election until "macaca". A traitor to both sides of the aisle, as well as his constituency, Joe Lieberman finds himself re-elected time and again. A radio disc jockey of almost zero common decency (don't donate to Haiti??) Limbaugh holds sway with a number of listeners(voters) this side has never seen the likes of. Palin rules the headlines and bookstores without any credible political background to parallel her notoriety. By the way, how long did it take for Joe the Plumber to get off the stage? And the last two were brought to you by the man that they thought was fit for the White House.
I could go on. Easily. What surprises anyone that people vote the way they do?
It's not Obama's fault. This President remains one of the best men to occupy the White House in recent memory. Hands down. Bright, visionary, ethical, moral, family, makes me proud every day to be an American and to call him my President. But let's not kid ourselves. The work to be done that lies in front of this President is enormous. As it is for most of the chosen that occupy the office. It is going to take a lot of time to effect change. But people bail out way too soon.
Maybe the Mass. Democratic party needs a check-up. The candidate (Coakley) and the candidacy were terribly ineffectual. Not our best effort for sure.
But ultimately it's us. We are short on attention and even shorter on patience. In some cases understandably so. Hey, no job...days are long and debt is deep. But until we stick to a plan and stick to our guns, we will repeat the same cycle time after time. See the light but don't see it through.
So that work lies not just in front of President Obama. It's right there in front of us.
Nothing short of a relentless, long term effort.
Get to work
