A few tidbits about the Winter Olympics
From the Vancouver Observer:
no snow is predicted between now and February 12. Not enough to cover over muddy sections on Cypress Mountain where Olympic freestyle skiing and snowboarding events are to be held.
Meanwhile, Whistler Ski Resort, host of the Olympic downhill races next month, has been seized by its investment group which includes Lehman Brothers, which is itself defunct!
You can bid on the resort while attending the Olympics, as creditors plan on auctioning it off as the games are taking place.
In other whacky Winter Olympics news, Ron Judd of the Seattle Times reports VANOC (Vancouver Organizing Committee) has banned staff members' blackberries, and presumably other PDA's not manufactured by the official "tele-geek equipment provider", Samsung, who is shipping 9200 of its competing "Omnia" and "Vice" units. ("Competing" may be too strong of a word.)
For Canadians wishing to purchase tickets, assuming that is still possible, don't try to use MC or AMEX, only official sponsor VISA is accepted.
If attending the events for entertainment isn't your thing, a Smörgåsbord of protests are available to choose from including poverty, war, and environment, among other causes.
The following is brought to you by the "Olympic Resistance Movement", which I am not endorsing, nor am I in any way affiliated.
That's all for now. Good night!
