When we lived in the tent it wasn’t the best. But the really bad time was before the tent when we didn’t have any place to go. That was the most scared I ever was. I’d sit in school and all I could think about was would we have a place to sleep and would my family be safe. The tent was much better. At least I knew there was somewhere to go. Seeing the homeless after natural disasters often triggers Kidlet’s worst memories – she experienced homelessness for a good part of her last 2 years with her birth family. This ShelterBox effort is near to our family’s heart because my daughter knows first hand the value of a place, no matter how simple, to call home.

Rebuilding in Haiti will take years, but the people need shelter now. Food, water and shelter are the most basic needs we must meet before they can begin the slow process of piecing their lives back together. This community has now funded enough ShelterBoxes to house well over 800 people!

I've donated $100 to start us off this evening. When you make your contributions, please note the amount in your subject line or somewhere in your comment. You can also email me at the address in my profile if you don't want to report it here. But please share with us - it inspires others to give!
ShelterBox USA has noticed - Tex Mex spoke to their communications officer about the effort and received emails thanking us, including one from the President of the board of ShelterBox USA. What's in a ShelterBox? The first ShelterBoxes arrive in Haiti: See ShelterBoxes in use:
