This is a doomsday scenario that no one prepared for and a nightmare that haunt the Democratic Party all year. But in the same breath, the best possible outcome involved the President coming out hard and telling the house to pass the Senate’s version in time for the State of the Union, which would have made it a moot point by November. If this drags on into the spring, or they revisit it, the season will become a blood bath. Or the more conservative Senate will attempt a version that lets the republican’s take credit for reform and murder the Democrats in the fall. It is not an optimal solution, but a balls out approach that would allow for work down the road probably could have saved some seats. Krugman raped reconciliation and bipartisanship in a column this morning and the length of time and investment of energy as people are asking for more focus on jobs would only show that the Democrats REALLY are out of touch. Either way they are fucked. I will pray for you.
None shall be saved.
