Republicans have big problems:
-- 2001-2010 was the GOP's "Lost Decade" for earning votes.
-- The economy is tanked because a private industry -- the mortgage industry -- went criminal, faked appraisals, and wrote $4-trillion in bad loans.
The GOP should be tanked, too. Then, out of the blue, this gal Natalie made a discovery:
Her tactical system, Natalie's Memes, provides a three step technique to obscure real-world failure and then, critically, to rebalance a decision process to maximize the impact of individual attractiveness.
This is an interesting piece of work in the details. Want to underestimate Natalie? Got $$$ and votes to throw away?
Her Memes helped elect this guy:
Worst nightmare for Democrats? That the GOP can pound Natalie's Memes 50x24x7.
Build a pro-democracy counter? Democrats need to do some brain work. Case analytics BTF :::
THE GOP'S "LOST DECADE"
"America's Sexiest Man of 1982" avoided difficult work. After law school, he occupied political positions. He used his law degree to do property appraisal, which normally requires a two-year Associates Degree.
As a legislator, he was Party of No. The GOP lineup, generally, has similar problems:
-- The party has not generated one important, useful program or reform in more than a decade.
-- Republican candidates, to the man, have a problem showing anything that they have done to earn votes.
THE SHARKS
Any question who the sharks are ?
The GOP has the Powell System. This conglomerate is the GOP's largest ad agency and, effectively, its Propaganda Ministry. 20,000 employees in 300 organizations and $500-million a year for budget. Time off for whatever is hot. This is a professional army that is certainly capable of exploiting a new campaign technique.
Selling lies is the norm.
They worked endlessly to sell George Bush as tough on terrorism. In reality, Bush had done nothing to ward off the 9/11 attacks. Bush also bungled the military effort to kill Binladen at Tora Bora.
Facts never limit the propaganda machine.
And then along came Jones... Tall thin Jones... Slow walking Jones....
NATALIE'S MEMES
It's not exactly a "Jones," here. Its Natalie White.
Natalie faced pretty much the same problems as the GOP. She was a player on the reality television show Survivor Samoa. Natalie got toward the end of Survivor and had done nothing to earn votes.
It's not that she was a one-girl Party of No. Natalie was lazy.
Natalie had not worked around camp, not done much on challenges, not found food. She was so lazy about going out and finding food that she was starving on a lush tropical island -- she dropped 20 pounds in 39 days.
She attached herself to a strong player, Russell Hantz, and kept breathing. Then her application of Natalie's Memes made all the difference.
Whining, Ad Hominem and Special Pleading.
Natalie developed a political novelty: a unique pattern for a combined attack:
1.) Whining. Her future voters were encouraged in subtle, framed sessions to whine about the main rivals. Natalie's remarks during these sessions presented moderate positions.
2.) Ad hominem. The first pay-off is that Natalie was able to inject derogatory ad hominem details. One detail, per opponent, was repeated for effect. This matches to GOP "message discipline." Her future voters were especially receptive during whining sessions, given the nature of their own mental activity.
3.) Special Pleading. Natalie's role as listener/encourager was enhanced to do double-duty. Getting the victory resulted from a disciplined form of an informal fallacy called Special Pleading. Natalie communicated a broad variety of associations with traditional virtues. She used repetition, again, to embed factoids that elevated her own image. The prime goal was to establish that she was intrinsically deserving of votes, apart from in-game performance.
Worked to beat the band:
During the final voting session Natalie was only lightly criticized for doing nothing to earn votes. In effect, the concept and the whole process of earning votes was put to sleep.
Natalie's professional smile -- her pharma sales rep friendliness -- translated to a negotiable asset. Natalie cast her rivals as aloof, uncaring, not connected, out of touch. Same for Scott Brown. She was a Prayer Warrior, so voters should elect her.
As you can imagine, this disciplined combo-attack is solid gold for today's GOP.
Any form of team work or in-game accomplishment ??? Irrelevant.
"What rises must converge" sounds pretty.
What wins... does converge.
Scott Brown's "surge" came when his team went over from tax-cuts-and-freedom "talking points" to the full force of Natalie's Memes.
"POPULIST ANGER" BECAME THE WHINING-TRIGGER
The Mass. sports-talk shows amplified the whining pattern. Both Brown and his ally, former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling hammered in the character slams. Schilling changed his message to fit exactly with language used by Natalie:
-- elitism and arrogance
-- feeling that the seat belongs to her
-- I guess they’re the ones that matter, huh?
-- "...I’m a Democrat, therefore Ted Kennedy’s seat just automatically belongs to me..."
-- doesn’t need to give her constituents the time of day
-- "...snide remarks..."
-- rubbing elbows with the Democrat establishment
-- go shake hands with voters
-- sneering insults about Fenway Park

Of course, Scott is as pretty as dime-store Jesus.
One other advantage of Natalie's Memes is that the whine-slam-and-close shit storm only needs to peak for a couple of days. Perfect for the 800-pound-gorilla outside-the-campaign resources of the Powell System.
PHARMA SALES REPS AS THE MODEL FOR CANDIDATES
Natalie White is a first-rate example of what the pharmas send in to doctors' offices. She plays in one of the country's highest-stakes poker games.
Tell me the GOP is not recruiting knock-offs of these pharma sales force professionals... knock-offs of Natalie the Magnificent:
The candidate development operations in the Powell System use pharma salesforce training materials. They work on communication skills, message discipline, and understanding decision-making psychology. The materials range from interactive video to voice coaching.
Wouldn't hurt the Dems for shops such as Camp Wellstone to have a look at pharma training technology.
Any useful ideas ?
Meanwhile... the Powell System is tasked to move America to corporatism, to status as another China. Their professionals do indeed memorize Sun Tzu. They see politics as war. Already there is another GOP candidate in Hawaii working on redoing the Brown campaign.
Expect that to multiply.
The pharmas are not copying the GOP; the GOP is copying the pharmas.
