That's what is really going on after all when Obama, Rahm and other like-minded conservatives tell liberals to moderate and move to the center. What they are really saying is that if we push to hard for a level of justice that the ruling class (David Brooks' term) is unprepared to accept then all bets are off and any pretense of America being a democracy will be seen through.
In the Truman Show, Truman's wife Meryl and his friend Marlon were actually Truman's 'handlers' who whispered into his ear what the Master of Truman's Universe (Christof) wanted him to hear so as to affect his sense of reality and decision-making. The moderate Dems are like Meryl and Marlon who are actively trying to persuade the populace to stop trying to "see behind the stage" and to be content in the fantasy world the Republicans have created for us. They tell us if we don't keep Geithner and Bernanke the world as we know it will come to an end. And that may very well be the case. Exposing Giehtner, Bernanke and our Master of the Universe, the Federal Reserve (owned by foriegners), may cause a fundamental socio-economic, political re-alignment. At this point I would welcome it for better or worse. I feel like Truman, so tired of being lied to by not only the Republican whom I expect to lie to me, but by my "allies", my "Meryl" and my "Marlon". I am tired of being told the sky is blue and having the stage lights that fall on top of me. The Dems are providing cover for the GOP, that is their role. The corporations are playing "Good Cop, Bad Cop" with us and starring the Dems as the "Good Cops" pretending like they are acting in our interests but in reality just trying to stick it to us as much as the GOP. If they can pass a Health Care bill through reconciliation WITHOUT a Public Option it goes to show they were never dealing in good faith in the first place. Now that the global corporations are able to buy our elections it appears the final scene may already be written and it don;t look good for the home team. Oh yeah, "In case I don't see you ... good afternoon, good evening, and good night."
