Seems the past year has taken a toll not only on the President's popularity, but also on the popularity of the man who sold his soul in his effort to win the Presidency.
John McCain's job approval rating among Arizonans has dropped to 40% in a new Rocky Mountain Poll -- his lowest since Keating Five days.
According to TPM:
Just 40% of Arizonans approve of the job McCain is doing for them in D.C., according to the poll. In January of 2006, that number was 60%. It's not clear how much of an impact the tanking numbers will have on McCain's primary battle with conservative J.D. Hayworth. McCain does better with Republicans than he does with the rest of the state. He's got a 52% approval rating among the GOP.
But the news gets even better than that.
The robocalls are back!
HuffPo is reporting that aspiring Senate Republican primary challenger JD Hayworth is robocalling Arizona Republicans. Playing on the teabagger frenzy and McCain's fossilhood longevity in politics, Hayworth offers himself as a fresh, principled alternative:
Hi. This is JD Hayworth calling. If you share my opinion that John McCain has admirably served our country but that 28 years in Washington is just too long, then I want you to know that I will soon be announcing my candidacy for the United States Senate. Arizona's Republicans deserve a choice and alternative to Senator McCain's moderate record on taxes, social issues, the border, and bailing out the banks. I will be a consistent, faithful conservative that you can rely on to put Arizona first. This is going to be a great debate, and I need you. Please get involved by going to JD2010.com.
And we all know how much McCain loves being on the receiving end of a robocall campaign.
This is the best news day John McCain has had since Nov. 4th, 2008! And I have to say, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy.
UPDATE: More good news for John McCain!
