"We're having a jobless recovery" said Jay Rockefeller (R) West Virginia. This was the Republican response to the just-finished speech that President Obama gave to the Congressional Republicans that was live on C-Span. " Patric Juillet " has reminded me that Jay is a Democrat. They're beginning to sound the same, to me, I can't tell them apart anymore.
A jobless recovery means that we are dipping into our savings and spending. They are measuring 'recovery' as 'how much money are people spending'.
This is a stupid way to look at our economy.
Emptying our bank accounts to buy stuff, even if it is stuff we need, is not an indication that our economy is in recovery. If we have to dip into our savings and only the vendors are experiencing 'recovery' I'd call that a 'GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE'.
Our savings accounts are being depleted. We are getting sicker, not recovering, if we are depleting our savings. Andrea Mitchell was the reporter speaking to Jay Rockefeller and she's married Alan Greenspan. If Andrea Mitchell can't cut through the fog, who can?
There is no recovery, if it's a jobless recovery. We're ailing and until we get jobs, we'll continue to deteriorate.
We'll not only become a debtor nation, we as individuals will all be in debt!
Just like Haiti. Haiti is in debt. Their people are in constant debt. Most of the Haitians alive, had nothing to do with the debt that Haiti, as a nation, has to repay.
We are owned by our creditors. I owe my soul to the company store!
Merle Travis wrote and sings "Sixteen Ton" because he "owes his soul to the company store!"
I was reflecting on my lost opportunities to grab the brass ring, so to speak, or to move in those high-powered circles that are glorified in b-movies.
Over 10 years ago, I was offered $5,000 for one night of sex with a man who owns a construction company. I was considered a trophy for several reasons. I didn't take it. I recalled it a few days ago, when my driver took us along Lake Street under the elevated commuter train tracks past a housing project. There were African-American women, obviously poor, trying to pick up men for the purpose of selling them sex. My driver commented on this and I said "it's sad what some girls will do for $100". My driver laughed. He said they will do it for $5!
That's what brought on the memory of my being offered $5,000 for one night. Oh, I've had men offer money to me before - hundreds of dollars. But most men have some class and show up with roses, limo, dinner and then they stop at the hotel expecting sex ... after they've courted you. Some men even plied me with jewelry and cars! One guy offered to buy me a RED mink coat if I promised to wear nothing underneath. Several men wanted me to go with them to Vegas. I declined and demurely said that I would go with them to 'Monte' as in Monte Carlo. Nah, I wouldn't have, I was just teasing them. Until recently, men didn't get this kinds of offers. Cashing in, selling your sex for money, used to be something only women (or men dressed as women) could do. But with the changes in social mores and women making their own money, more and more men have become sex-toys that are willing to be bought. And old women, cougars, are wanting to buy themselves a taste of youth.
On a day like today, when I'm overwhelmed with medical/surgical bills and listening to this "jobless recovery" drivel, I ask myself: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING WHEN YOU TURNED DOWN THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR SEX!
I'll get over it. I'm not built that way. I can't 'just' have meaningless sex, even if I am offered alot of money or expensive toys.
