In his January 27 response to the President’s State of the Union message, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell offered a website, solutions.gop.gov, where the Republican Party offered its policy alternatives.
Really, the GOP has a .gov suffix, the same as the IRS or the FBI? My first thought was that the GOP no longer recognized Barack Obama as the lawful head of this nation and had formed its own parallel government.
However, the Republicans are not alone is usurping the power of .gov. The Democratic Party has obtained the government suffix for their political sites Democrats.senate.gov and HouseDemocrats.gov, the latter still under construction.
Dotgov.gov, the General Services Administration website for domain name registration for the U.S. government, states that eligibility for .gov "is limited to qualified government organizations and programs. Having a managed domain name such as .gov assures your customers that they are accessing an official US Government Site."
Apparently, the politicians got the GSA to bend the rule. Both the Republican Party and Democratic Party think they are the government. Hey, how about bending the rule my way? As an incarnation of the Egyptian sun-god Re, I want to register PHOTUS.GOV, i.e. PHaroah Of The United States.
