Alan Sloan:
Social Security could be next to need a bailout
My letter to the editor of the Washington Post:
Sir:
HOW DARE YOU allow Alan Sloan to pretend that paying back the DEBT OWED to those of us who have PREPAID OUR RETIREMENT constitutes a bailout?
Since 1983 we workers have been paying more into the Trust Fund than was needed to cover current payouts. Those overpayments are a DEBT OWED to those of us who paid in.
Just because Congress decided to appropriate the overage into the general budget doesn’t mean the DEBT OWED to us has gone away.
Just because George W. Bush decided to give that overage to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet through outrageous tax breaks and to his war contractor buddies by putting us into perpetual wars does not obviate the DEBT OWED to us.
Tell Alan Sloan to stop propagandizing, because if anyone tries to take away the DEBT OWED to us, there will be a wave of protests like nothing this country has ever seen.
